Our Story

We have been working over 17 years with young adults with barriers to employment because of their developmental and intellectual disabilities.

Through this work we realize there was a need that wasn’t being met. Young adults with Autism and other developmental disabilities were coming to us for help to find fulfilling work. Research shows that upwards of 76% are unemployed, even those with college degrees. How could it be that these talented and motivated young people could not find fulfilling work, much less build careers?

Today, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) estimates one in 68 children in the U.S. are autistic or some other developmental disability. An estimated 50,000 teens become adults and lose school-based support services every year. These young adults have been abandoned by the system. Many are too high-functioning to fit into traditional government funded programs and yet they face tremendous barriers to get into a career path.

We developed YCU (Your Career Unleashed) to help this growing population become productive and contributing members of society.
